My self-summary Propose an edit

I'm a geeky socialist Quaker Pagan, interested in alternative healing. I love children, animals, and Scandinavian music. I'm also a bit of a nature sprite. I think too much and make interesting connections. I've never fit neatly into any category (though labels seem to be an efficient way to give people a basic idea of who I am).

I've lived in Michigan, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Philadelphia; Vienna, Austria for a semester in college (hands down my favorite city ever); and spent a year au pairing in Switzerland (half an hour west of Zurich). I love traveling and squee about Europe. One day, I will go to Asia.

I just moved to Asheville, and am looking for new friends and nifty people in the area.

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

I just got an awesome job as an acupuncturist's assistant, which I've been enjoying immensely. I'm months away from getting my NC license for Shiatsu and so am currently stalled, but I'm looking forward to being able to do that as well. My eventual goals involve studying more Chinese Medicine (both acupuncture and herbology), Zero Balancing and Jin Shin Do. I've recently been getting interested in Chi Nei Tsang.

I'm also looking into volunteering for hospice.

I'm really good at Propose an edit

Asking questions. Shiatsu. Geeking out about various topics (especially alternative medicine). Baking vegan scones. Throwing fresh foods together into simple, yummy meals. Worrying.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit

Books: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, Prodigal Summer and The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver; The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant; Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides; Kushiel's Legacy trilogy by Jaqueline Carey; Ursula, Under by Ingrid Hill; The Book of Salt by Monique Truong; Pride and Prejudice; Emma; Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azir Nafisi; Case Histories by Kate Atkinson; The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri; The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold; A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon. I read a lot, and rarely re-read books.

Movies: Lord of the Rings; Totoro; Princess Bride; Pirates of the Caribbean; Clue; Better Off Dead; Serenity; Muppet movies; High Fidelity; Labyrinth.

Music: I love Scandinavian music, various other world music, trip-hop, classical, Aimee Mann, and various fusion.

Foods: I'm a pesco vegetarian (pescetarian) and love ethnic cuisine. I love sushi, really good chocolate (Claudio Corallo, Valhrona single estate), wine and tea. I've been nursing a budding appreciation for expensive Belgian beers. Lately, I've been trying to eat as local a diet as possible, with the bulk of my food coming from the farmer's markets near me, and whatever local items I can scrounge up at Whole Foods (along with a few I can't, like olive oil and tempeh).

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

Dance, cuddling, writing, books, music, and sex.

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit

Herbalism, bodywork, alternative medicine, healing, dance (tribal belly dance, burlesque, and salsa), German, travel, Zero Balancing. How to build a Shiatsu clientele. Lately, relationship structure and how I want that to work in my life. Wine and food. Sex. Gender and what it means. The ethics of food, and how what I eat and how I live affect the world.

You know where to get really good, high quality loose tea in the Asheville area.

You know of some good local food sources I might not be tapping into.

You're interested in getting to know me, since I like talking with interesting people. If you're not interested in me as a friend whether or not anything more develops, and are only looking for someone to date and/or fuck, please don't bother.

I've disabled IMs because they rarely work on my computer. If you'd like to chat, send me a not-so-instant message.
